Friday evening the board met at the Jerome Christian Church at 7:15 PM by Pam Newland with devotion about our emptiness, which leaves the door open for God to work. Then Larry & Pam explained the object of our Friday evening meeting was to set parameters for the Saturday meeting. Mission – Nicaragua – summary – “Amazing How The Lord Provides!!” – Larry wanted to stress that when we work with missions, we need to keep in mind that the people of where we are get to do what they want, and not let our wants take over. Bibles were very treasured. One of the Nicaraguans thanked Bob Hopper for bringing Bibles, not bombs! Administration – financial concerns for the camp facility. Larry again asked that we all take back to our congregations how the funds for the Special Offerings are now being divided. Commission on Ministry – will take two students “Under Care” who are going to Brite University in Texas. They will be Tracia Salzer and Karisa Rickard from the University Christian Church in Boise. Regional Assembly – Plan theme, place, and dates for the Regional Assembly. It was decided to go ahead and have those at the Friday evening meeting work on this project, so we split into groups and each took a few minutes to reflect on what had worked and what hadn’t for the Snake River Academy in 2002 and the Regional Assembly in 2001. We then gathered the information and all agreed on the following: The dates for the Assembly will be March 12 & 13th, 2004. It will be held at the Red Rock Christian Church, Boise and the theme will be set at a later date, depending on whom we get as speakers. There were several ideas suggested to the group for a good assembly. The main ideas were: 1. Music 2. Inspirational speaker 3. Time for fellowship 4. Communion & praise worship 5. Meaningful theme 6. Break out groups
REGIONAL BOARD MEETING MAY 10, 2003
The same members of the board attended except Pam Newland, who couldn’t stay over. The meeting opened with a scripture and song at 9:35 AM. Larry explained the different divisions and suggested that we break and get our planning done in our divisions and then bring the information back later. We resumed the meeting at 11:40 AM with a scripture from Mark 9. “All things can be done if you believe” Connie reviewed a happening in Nicaragua when a mother of 6 children came and cooked for them and was asked how she managed. She told them “All things can be done if you believe in God!” Reports were given: Regional - - Yakama - - Jani DeMond reported that they are gearing up for their summer program. It will be a 6-hour a day program that will last for eight weeks. She also invited anyone who would like to join them to a celebration for Yakama to celebrate being there for 80 years. It will be over the July 4th weekend in 2004 and Dick Hamm will speak along with Arnold Nelson. Lyle & Jani will be attending and would love to have others from our region join them. Jani also reminded everyone that she still has coffee to sell. It is a fundraiser for Yakama Mission Youth and that Yakama can always use donations, whether it be clothes, school supplies or just money. They can use any or all of it. If your churches gather anything, just let her know and she will get it over to them. Jani asked a prayer to dedicate her report and the work of the Mission. Assembly Planning Committee - -The details will be worked out as it draws closer, but the dates were set for March 12, 13, 2004 at Red Rock Christian Church, Boise. Mission Division- - Nicaragua and goal summaries of the trips. It was suggested that a handbook for the people going on future trips be made, with what the objects and goals have been and which of those have been completed. The evaluation of both trips was excellent! They had very positive trips. The building wasn’t completely finished. The committee asked that a letter be drafted to go to the individual congregations explaining that approximately $8000 is still needed for them to finish the building. They want each church to have the money go through their congregation’s giving and then send it to the Region from each church. Gary Smith made a motion to get the letter drafted and sent to all the churches. It passed. The Mission Division also asked that the Board give them support to get an Evangelism Committee going. They asked for the Board’s prayers and support. A prayer was then given to dedicate their report and to support their work. Nurture Division - - Gary Allen reported on the Regional Camp plans. We will have Co-Directors for all the camps this year! We have tried for years and this year will be the first to achieve this goal. The dates for the camps are: KID’S CAMP – 1ST 2ND & 3RD GRADERS JUNE 16-18 – UNIVERSITY CHURCH - BOISE JUNIOR CAMP – 4TH 5TH & 6TH GRADERS JULY 7 – 11 KUM BA YA CAMPGROUND CHI RHO CAMP – 7TH 8TH & 9TH GRADERS JULY 21-26 – KUM BA YAH CAMPGROUND CYF CAMP – 10TH, 11TH, & 12TH GRADERS AND THIS YEAR’S GRADS JULY 28 – AUG 2ND - CASCADE CAMPGROUND Gary asked that the Regional Board give a vote of confidence to the directors that they have the authority over their direct camps. Roger Bray asked what this meant and Gary explained that it would mean that each set of directors could set their own boundaries on dress code, medicine policies, etc. This would not go against any set policies. It was discussed and it was decided that this would be a good idea. Gary also asked that we endorse the same rule as last year that all Camp CITs have to attend a training or meet with the camp directors and/or an EMT. It was decided that this would be a good policy. He also asked that each and every camper be told, when they sign up to go to our camps, they should realize that they will be attending a Christian Camp and that it will function with a different expectation than other camps. They will need to conduct themselves as a Christian. The Board also endorsed this. Administration Division -- Bob Hopper reported that their committee had gone over the budget and used regular numbers. The budget is in fairly good shape. Larry Christ asked that we give the two camp caretakers a raise from the $500 per month to $700 per month. The money is already budgeted and comes from camp fees. Bob Hopper made a motion and it passed. Bob also reported that Larry has been trying to make a friendlier and easier-to-read report and it is coming along. Peggy Hill gave a prayer to dedicate the work and report of the Administrative Division. Commission on Ministry - -Jani DeMond reported that they met and are taking Tracia Salzer and Karisa Rickard “Under Care” for the time that they will be studying at Brite University and Seminary to become ministers in our church. Jani asked that we all keep them in our prayers as they venture out for the Lord. Jani then gave a prayer to dedicate their work. CWF - - Ida Hardy, C.W.F. President gave a report that the C.W.F. Prayer Breakfast on March 1st in Twin Falls was held along with the Snake River Academy. Kathy Hopper was the speaker with “Hugs” as the topic. They had an offering of $479 that went to the Nicaragua trips. The West District Spring Retreat was held April 5th at Ontario and the East District on April 26th at Pocatello. The Theme was “Feeding the Spirit” with Pat Henderson as speaker. They had about 60 ladies attend. The fall retreat will be August 8,9, & 10th at Kum Ba Yah. The speaker will be Susan Gonzales Dewey from California. Linda Dealy then dedicated this report in prayer. CMF - - Leman Messley reported that in June the National Men’s Fellowship would meet in Cincinnati, Ohio. If anyone can go, please contact Leman for him to get you the info. Larry suggested going to the link from the Regional Website. Regional Minister’s Report - - Larry Crist reported that our Region is healthy and that the three search committees have all decided to keep the interims that they have at least for the following year The September Board Meeting will be held on September 12, 13, 2004, at the Valley Christian Church in Twin Falls.
