Drew Johnson, Linda P. Olsen. The meeting opened with introductions and thoughts to share at 9:41 AM. The movie “The Beach” was discussed and it was brought to our minds that it takes all of us to make a community and sometimes we have to experience pain to experience the love of the Lord. We can’t hold ourselves aloof or we miss out on the good things. Larry explained the different divisions, gave room assignments and suggested that we break into our committees and get our planning done in our divisions and then bring the information back later. We resumed the meeting at 11:40 AM. Reports were given: Administration Division – Peggy Hill reported their committee decided to make a few changes for the bookkeeping. The receipt process will be a 3 copy from NCR receipt. Deposit Slip – Bank Statement – and Financial Statement. The Expense process will be Bills, Receipts, Invoices, Cancelled Check, Bank Statement, Financial Statement. There will be a regional Third party justification quarterly. We need to encourage our congregations when we have our special offering at Christmas as the region gets 100% return from this. Camp use fees , will be – land use $8 per day Groups - $4.50 per day for D.O.C. members Groups - $6.50 per day for Non members The fees will be charged for anyone who is there even for part of a day. Commission on Ministry - -Jani DeMond reported that 1. recommended that we grant ministerial standing to Drew Johnson from Burley. The board agreed. 2. The committee recommended that even though technically and legally it is unnecessary, we grant dual standing to Pastor Linda Olsen currently serving 1st Christian Church in Nampa. The board agreed to this recommendation. 3. That we continue to keep Tracia Salzer and Karisa Rickard in our prayers and to nurture them in any way the need. 4. That we continue to pray for the Pastors who are serving our churches in South Idaho. 5. Next meeting they will meet with Pastors Gary Smith and Connie Day. General-- Roger Bray serves on the National Administrative Committee: He reported: 1. Elected Chris Hobgood to serve as General Minister and President for a 21 month period. To follow Dick Hamm who resigned effective at the end of the General Assembly in October. From his speech it became apparent to me that he is planning to uphold the 2020 vision. It also was also apparent that Hobgood sees his role as being a bridge to the next GMP so that there is a continuity in the 2020 Vision and the corresponding Mission Imperatives. 2. Heard that the NBA is in financial distress. Their endowments are down and they are getting a very little as their income from them. We can expect there to be some hard days ahead. 3. Disciples Mission Fund was down. But there is a commitment to make it work. 4. Heard that the Regional allocations are being scrutinized and some regions are taking hits. We should be prepared to see ours readjusted down if eventually the distribution formula on a per-regional member basis is adopted. 5. Two of our larger regions are having conversations of merging. Texas and Oklahoma. There has been some talk of even encluding the Great Rivers Region which is the product of the merger of Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana. The idea is to get more service out to the churches and have field offices with one Regional Minister and a Business Manager. These talks are being enthusiastically undertaken. The Oklahoma regional web-site had a good review of this until just a few days ago. 6. New Church Development continues to surge. We appear to way ahead of where we expected top be just 2 and ˝ years into this program. The news is dynamic and challenging. We should be on board. 7. General Assembly in Charlotte – October 17-21. Inspiring assembly planned but also some great pre-assembly events as well. Not too late to plan to go!!! CWF - - Peggy Hill & Linda Dealy gave the CWF report. 1. There was a CWF Regional board meeting on June 28th at Red Rock Christian Church. We completed plans for the women’s retreat. 2. Women’s retreat was held August 8-10 at camp Kum Ba Yah with 42 attending. Susan Gonzales Dewey was our guest presenter. She did a wonderful job of presenting thoughts and issues on our theme of “Feed My Sheep.” We explored taking care of others, taking care of ourselves and what we can do to help advance awareness of need. Connie Day presented her program on the mission trip to Nicaragua which was very well received. Everyone needed tissues! Rita Weaver was retreat cook and we had excellent food. It was a very special retreat. I still have women sharing with me how much they enjoyed the week-end. Susan and Connie’s messages were great and some are still asking for Rita’s recipes. An offering of $265 was made for Yakama. 3. Women’s Retreat for 2004 will be August 13 – 15 at Cascade. Please make note of these dates so as not to schedule other programs at this time. CMF - - Bob Hopper gave the CMF report. He reported that they had held a CMF retreat on August 20 – 22. They had 13 men attend. Everyone had a great time and they got a lot of work done at camp Kum Ba Yah. They will have a CMF Breakfast at Assembly. The place will be announced. Mission Division- - Gary Smith gave the mission report. 1. NBA is having difficult times financially. They think that the Boise facility will still go on as planned. It is funded by HUD (the government). It is in the beginning stages. When Gary checked this past week they were putting in the plumbing. 2. The Nicaragua Mission was reported on. Larry & Roger were talking of a medical trip. It was decided that we should check with the Nicaraguan People before it was decided to take a medical group down. The next trip is planned for the year 2005. 3. Yakama Mission is in need of work groups. Jani DeMond told us that they will take groups up to 20 people. There is a certain charge per day and you stay on the mission grounds. Janetta Piper made a motion that the committee recommend we make our Mission trip for 2004 to the Yakama Mission. It was 2nd and passed. 4. Looking ahead to the Assembly the committee wanted each of us to take home the information for Assembly and to encourage all of our congregations to come and join in the learning and fun. Nurture Division - - Gary Allen reported on the Regional Camp plans. We reached our goal of Co-Directors for all the camps this year! We have tried for years and this year will be the first to achieve this goal. The dates for the camps are: 1. KID’S CAMP – 1ST 2ND & 3RD GRADERS had 16 campers on June 16-18 at the University Church in Boise. 2. JUNIOR CAMP – 4TH 5TH & 6TH GRADERS had 22 campers on July 7 – 11 at the Kum Ba Ya Campground. 3. Or a mission trip to Yakama? Regional Assembly Planning – The plan made Friday night at the Advisory Board was given (refer to it on page one of these minutes). Regional Minister’s Report - -Larry Crist gave a Power Point Presentation that showed us the growth of the Disciple’s Church and how we are following the nation in our loss of membership. Larry remembered that when he came into this position he was the youngest Regional Pastor. This is his 20th year serving South Idaho. Most of the data that he showed us followed the same pattern. He stated that we need to remind ourselves – we are not the only parade being rained on. He told us that it is hard to understand why things are the way they are. Joy is not easy to find. Pastors are overworked. Many have other jobs to make it work.Larry asked us all to go back to our boards and have them make a plan for the next seven years and let him know where we want to be in seven years when he is ready to retire. He would like each of the churches to make a plan of direction for the Region and a Purpose for us to reach towards. He would like to continue in our Mission with Nicaragua, Continue in Leadership training, Make sure we continue the Forrest Service Leases. We need to keep active. His goals for our Region were: ·Keep Assembly and Snake River Academy happening ·Asset Development ·Keep Communication going between the churches & their people ·Partnering w/ the other churches in the Region ·Evangelism needs to continue – Could be a Spanish Ministry – Could be Yakama Mission Larry told us that even though we are a small region we need to continue to hold fast and strong. Larry then led us in prayer that our region continue to move forward in our near future. The September Board Meeting will be held on February 6,& 7, 2004, at the Jerome Christian Church in Jerome. The meeting adjourned at 2:11PM Submitted with Christ’s Love, Susi McCall
